Release time:

2024-09-24

ASTM A252 is a standard of Piling pipe, the grades of ASTM A252 including Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 3 is the most used option. ASTM A252 standard is widely used in constructions and structural buildings. This specification covers nominal thickness of the wall steel pipe piles of cylindrical shape and applies to pipe piles in which the steel cylinder acts as a permanent load- carring member, or as a shell to form cast-in-place concrete piles. LEFIN STEEL can produces the ASTM A252 piling pipe.

Main requirements:

 1. One of the main requirements of ASTM A252 piling pipe is that it must meet certain strength and durability standards. This ensures that the pipes can withstand the weight of heavy construction materials and resist corrosion and other types of damage over time.

 2. ASTM A252 Another important aspect of piling pipe is its size and shape. This type of pipe is typically manufactured in large diameters and can be customized to meet specific project requirements.

Characteristic:

The most important characteristic of ASTM A252 is its ability to withstand high pressure and tensile loads. This is achieved through its high-strength steel composition and carefully controlled manufacturing processes. These pipes are designed for exceptional durability and ductility, ensuring they can withstand the rigors of construction and provide long-lasting performance.

Processing process:

 1. Choose high-quality raw materials. Carbon steel used in the production of A252 seamless piling pipe

 2. Heating and rolling solid steel pipe until desired size and shape is achieved.

 3. Carry out heat treatment process. The pipes are heated to a specific temperature and then cooled at a controlled rate.

 4. Testing: After the heat treatment process is completed, the pipeline will undergo a series of tests, including ultrasonic testing, hydrostatic testing and visual inspection.

 5. Finishing: The final step in the machining process is finishing the pipe. This includes cutting the pipe to the required length, applying any necessary coatings or finishes, and preparing the pipe for transportation.

Anti corrosion coating:

ASTM A252 piling pipe is exposed to harsh environments such as salt water or highly acidic soils for long periods of time, and the most widely used methods are galvanizing and coating.

1. Galvanizing is known for its excellent anti-corrosion properties and provides a protective layer to the metal underneath. The process provides long-lasting protection against rust and corrosion, ensuring pipe longevity and reliability.

2. Epoxy and polyethylene coatings are another corrosion protection method applied to ASTM A252 piling pipe and provide excellent resistance to corrosion, mechanical damage, and chemical attack.

Differences between ASTM A252 Welded pipe and Seamless pipe:

1. ASTM A252 welded pipe is made by joining two steel plates or coils together through a welding process. It's for low voltage applications
Seamless pipe is made by drawing a solid billet of steel through a perforated rod to form a hollow tube. Preferred for high pressure applications.

2. Welded pipe tends to be less expensive than seamless pipe because it requires less production time and specialized equipment.
Seamless pipe is generally stronger and more durable than welded pipe

Differences between GR.1, GR.2, GR.3:

 1. ASTM A252 GR.1: Grade 1 steel is the most commonly used type of steel and is ideal for deep foundations and structural supports. It has a minimum yield strength of 30,000 psi and a minimum tensile strength of 50,000 psi. It is characterized by weldability and good impact resistance.

 2. ASTM A252 GR.2: Grade 2 steel has a higher minimum yield strength of 35,000 psi and a minimum tensile strength of 60,000 psi. It is used when required to support heavier loads or harsher environmental conditions.

 3. ASTM A252 GR.3: Grade 3 steel has the highest minimum yield and tensile strengths of the three grades, 45,000 and 66,000 psi respectively. It is used in applications requiring the highest strength and durability, such as offshore oil rigs and subsea pipelines.

Chemical element content:

 1. Grade 1: The carbon content of ASTM A252 gr.1 is limited to a maximum of 0.26%, manganese content is between 0.40% and 1.40%,  the phosphorus and sulfur contents are kept to a minimum to improve the weldability and prevent brittleness.

 2. Grade 2: One of the main elements in ASTM A252 gr.2 is carbon, 0.26% to 0.45%, which is relatively high compared to other types of steel.manganese from 0.60% to 1.35%.

 3. Grade 3:ASTM A252 gr.3 steel contains 0.26% to 0.45% carbon, 1.00% manganese, small amounts of phosphorus and sulfur, and up to 0.05% silicon.

Tensile strength and Yield strength:

Grade    Min. Tensile Strength psi(Mpa)    Min. Yield Strength psi(Mpa)
Grade 1    50,000(345)    30,000(205)
Grade 2    60,000(415)    35,000(240)
Grade 3    66,000(456)    45,000(310)
Advantages:

A252 piling pipe is primarily focused on its ability to provide strength and durability, making it an ideal material for requirements that demand high load-bearing capacity.

 1. ASTM A252 Class 1 is suitable for general purpose and low voltage applications. It is suitable for light duty applications.

 2. ASTM A252 Grade 2 is used for deep foundation piles and heavy-duty applications. It is ideal for high pressure and heavy duty applications.

 3. ASTM A252 Grade 3 is designed for high stress applications such as bridge piling and deep foundation piling. It is suitable for high stress applications.

Application:

 1. ASTM A252 Gr.1 is commonly used for structural supports. It is frequently used in the construction of buildings, bridges and other infrastructure projects.

 2. ASTM A252 Gr.2 is commonly used for piling. It is also used in the construction of buildings, bridges and other infrastructure projects.

 3. ASTM A252 Gr.3 is typically used in deep foundation applications such as offshore platforms. It is frequently used in the construction of oil and gas pipelines and in the construction of offshore structures.
In summary, ASTM A252 piling pipe is an important component of construction projects that require a strong foundation. ASTM A252 GR.3 is the most commonly used standard for pile pipes. These pipes are designed to withstand heavy loads and stresses and can be coated with a protective coating to extend their service life.
