  • Details
  • ASTM A106 Grade B is a standard specification for seamless carbon steel pipe designed for high-temperature service. It is part of the ASTM A106 standard, which covers seamless pipes used in power plants, refineries, boilers, and other high-pressure/temperature applications.

    Key Information
    ASTM A106 GR.B PIPE
    Standard: ASTM A106/A106M
    Grade: GR.A, GR.B, GR.C
Outside Diameter: Ranging from NPS 1/8 to NPS 48 (DN 6 to DN 1200)
Wall Thickness: Nominal (average) wall thickness as specified in ASME B36.10M.
Length: Commonly used 5.8M, 6M, 12M, but we can also produces depends on client's requirement.
Permissible Variations Of Mass: The mass of any length of pipe shall not vary more than 10% over and 3.5% under that specified.

    Type: Seamless.

Test: Hydrostatic test, Nondestructive electrical test, and Flattening test.
Applications: Pipelines, Boiler systems and Structural purposes.

    Chemical Composition
The chemical composition of ASTM A106 Grade B is carefully balanced to ensure strength, ductility, and corrosion resistance. The key elements and their maximum percentages are as follows:

    Composition,%

    Grade B
    Carbon,max0.30
    Manganese0.29-1.06
    Phosphorus,max0.035
    Sulfur,max0.035
    Silicon,min0.10
    Chromium,maxB0.40
    Copper,maxB0.40
    Molybdenum,maxB0.15
    Nickel,maxB0.40
    Vanadium,maxB0.08

B These five elements combined shall not exceed 1%.

    Mechanical Properties
ASTM A106 Grade B pipes are known for their excellent mechanical properties, making them suitable for demanding environments:

Tensile Strength: Minimum 415 MPa (60,000 psi)
Yield Strength: Minimum 240 MPa (35,000 psi)
    Elongation: Varies with pipe size

    Manufacturing And Processing
    Production Methods
    ● Hot-Finished Seamless Pipe: Made by piercing a billet and rolling at high temperatures (better for large diameters).
    ● Cold-Drawn Seamless Pipe: Produced by cold working for tighter tolerances and smoother surfaces.
    Heat Treatment
    ● Normalizing or Stress Relieving: Often applied to enhance mechanical properties.
    ● Annealing (Optional): Improves machinability for cold-drawn pipes.

    Benefits
High Durability: The material can endure challenging environments.

Superior Thermal Performance: Suitable for high-temperature applications like boilers and heaters.

Enhanced Weldability: Low carbon content facilitates efficient fabrication and installation.

Cost-Effective: Combines high performance with affordability.

Compliance with Standards: Adheres to ASTM standards, ensuring reliability and compatibility.

    Key Applications
ASTM A106 Gr. B is used in:

Power Generation: Steam lines, boiler tubes, and heat exchangers.
Oil & Gas: High-pressure pipelines, refineries, and offshore rigs.
Petrochemical Plants: Transporting hydrocarbons, acids, and gases.
Construction & Infrastructure: Structural supports and mechanical systems.

ASTM A106 Grade B is a high-strength, seamless carbon steel pipe optimized for high-pressure and high-temperature environments. Its reliability, standardized properties, and broad industrial acceptance make it a top choice for energy, chemical, and construction sectors.
