Product Description

FBE (fused epoxy powder) coated ERW (resistance welded) steel pipe is a kind of anti-corrosion steel pipe widely used in oil and gas transmission, drinking water pipeline and other fields, its core is to firmly combine the epoxy powder coating with the steel pipe matrix through a special process. The following is a detailed analysis from the dimensions of process, performance, application and industry standards:

Process and structure of FBE coating

1. Substrate treatment and spraying process

ERW steel pipes need to be shot peening and medium frequency preheating (usually heated to 180-250℃) before spraying, and then epoxy powder is uniformly attached to the surface of the steel pipe by electrostatic spraying. The coating is melted and cured at high temperature to form a continuous dense protective film, the film thickness is usually 300-500μm, and the extra-strong grade can reach more than 800μm.

2. Coating material characteristics

FBE coating is made of thermosetting epoxy powder, which is mixed with epoxy resin, curing agent and various auxiliaries, and has excellent chemical and thermal stability. The high cross-linked density structure formed after curing is resistant to chemical corrosion, soil stress and mechanical wear.

The performance advantages of FBE coated ERW steel pipe

1. Corrosion resistance

• Strong adhesion: the coating is bonded with the surface of the steel pipe through chemical bonding, and the peeling strength is high, which can effectively resist the cathode peeling.
• Medium erosion resistance: Suitable for buried and underwater environments, resistant to fresh water, seawater, crude oil, natural gas and sulfur-containing media.
• Temperature resistance: the operating temperature range is -30℃ to 100℃, which can meet the needs of most water and oil and gas pipelines.

2. Mechanical and construction performance

• Excellent impact and bending resistance, suitable for laying on complex terrain.
• Simple construction, one-time film formation, no pollution, in line with environmental requirements.

Typical application areas

1. Livelihood and energy projects

• Drinking water piping: For example, a project in Australia uses FBE coated ERW steel pipes to ensure that the coating meets food grade standards through third-party testing.
• Oil and gas transmission: used for submarine or buried pipelines, often used with 3PE external anti-corrosion layer, such as west-east gas transmission project as an external anti-corrosion layer or inner wall coating.

2. Corrosion prevention of complex pipe fittings

Flanges, elbows and other special-shaped pipe fittings are evenly sprayed through special tooling design to ensure that the film thickness meets the standard (such as 400-500μm required by ISO21809 standard).

Quality control and industry standards

1. Detection and verification

• The coating is subject to laboratory PQT (Process Validation test), including film thickness test, cathode peel test (e.g., no peel for 48 hours) and draw strength test.
• Pass third-party inspection before shipping to ensure 100% compliance with customer requirements, and use a rope buckle to secure the protective coating.

2. International standard system

• Chinese standard: SY/T0315-2013 "Steel pipe bonded epoxy powder coating technical standard".
• International standards: Canada CAN/CSA-Z245.20, Germany DIN30671, etc.

Sum up

FBE coated ERW steel pipe has become one of the preferred anti-corrosion solutions for pipeline engineering due to its excellent anti-corrosion properties, construction convenience and wide applicability. From drinking water safety to energy transportation, its application scenarios continue to expand, while strict process control and continuous technological innovation will further strengthen its position in the industry.
