Detailed Information

EN39 steel pipe is a kind of European standard scaffold special carbon steel pipe, its standard number is EN39:2001, widely used in construction, aviation, ships and other fields of structural support system.

1. Standards And Norms
EN39 steel pipe follows the European standard EN39:2001, which mainly regulates the material, tolerance and production process requirements of carbon steel pipe for scaffolding. In addition, some application scenarios will also refer to the British standard BS1139, which is similar in material and use, but the BS1139 standard focuses more on the production process of welded steel pipes (such as straight seam welding or spiral welding).

2.Material And Chemical Composition
EN39 steel pipe is made of low carbon structural steel, the material requirements are similar to China's Q235B, the chemical composition is mainly carbon (C), manganese (Mn), silicon (Si), sulfur (S) and phosphorus (P) content is low to ensure welding performance and toughness. Alloy steel materials (such as Q345) may be used in some scenarios, but the requirements must be met.

3. Specification Parameters
1. Size:
• Outer diameter: 48mm or 51mm (common size is 48.3mm)
• Wall thickness: 3.2mm (±10% deviation allowed), 3.5mm or 4mm in some scenarios
• Length: Usually 6 meters
2. Surface treatment: Hot dip galvanizing (GI) process is usually used to improve corrosion resistance.
3. Weight: the weight of a single steel pipe is generally not more than 25.8kg.

4. Application Field
EN39 steel pipe is mainly used for:
1. Construction: Build fastening-type steel pipe scaffolding to provide high-altitude working platform.
2. Industrial field: as a support structure for large buildings such as warehouses and factories.
3. Temporary facilities: such as ramps, sheds, stands, etc.

5. Performance characteristics
1. High bearing capacity: the bearing capacity of a single pipe column can reach 15-35kN (design value).
2. Corrosion resistance: galvanized surface treatment can effectively prevent rust and extend service life.
3. Processing flexibility: easy to cut, weld, adapt to a variety of geometric shape requirements.
4. Economy: low production cost, high turnover rate, less material consumption.

6. Production process
EN39 steel pipe adopts welding process (such as straight seam welding or spiral welding), among which:
• Straight welded pipe: high production efficiency, low cost, suitable for small diameter steel pipe.
• Spiral welded pipe: higher strength, suitable for large diameter steel pipe production, but slower.

7. Comparison with other standards
• EN74 standard: The same as the European scaffold pipe standard, but requires a wall thickness of 4.0mm (±10% deviation), and the surface must be hot-galvanized.
• GB/T13793: Similar products of China national standard, material requirements are Q235, outer diameter 48.3mm, wall thickness 3.6mm.

Sum up
With its standardized size, excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, EN39 steel pipe is the preferred material in the field of construction scaffolding. Its material compatibility with Q235B also facilitates the integration of global supply chains. The specific selection needs to compare the thickness and process requirements of different standards according to the engineering needs.
