Production Process

 

Raw Material Preparation 
1. Material selection requirements 
According to EN 10217, steel pipes must be made of a specific grade of steel, such as carbon steel, alloy steel or stainless steel (e.g. S235JRH, S275J2H, etc.). Raw materials must pass chemical composition analysis and mechanical properties testing to ensure that they meet the specifications of tensile strength and yield strength.

2. Pretreatment of billet 
Cut, trim and clean the surface of the steel plate or strip to remove impurities such as oxide, oil, and prepare for subsequent molding and welding.


Forming And Welding 
1. Roll molding 
The steel strip is unrolled by the uncoiler and sent to the forming machine for continuous rolling into a cylinder. This step needs to control the molding Angle and pressure to ensure that the roundness error of the pipe is within the standard range.

2. Welding process 
High-frequency resistance welding (HFW) or submerged arc welding (SAW) : EN 10217 allows a variety of welding methods, provided that the weld is continuous, free of pores and slag inclusion. 
- Post-welding treatment: Remove the welding slag and burr of the internal and external welds, and use mechanical polishing or chemical cleaning to ensure the smooth surface of the weld.

Heat Treatment And Straightening 
1. Heat treatment process 
Depending on the material type and use, the steel pipe needs to be normalized, annealed or quenched + tempered. For example, carbon steel is often normalized to remove residual stress and improve toughness, while alloy steel may require more complex heat treatment procedures.

2. Straightening and sizing 
The straightness of the steel pipe is adjusted by a multi-roll straightener, and the outer diameter and wall thickness are precisely controlled by a sizing mill, with tolerances within the ±1% range specified in EN 10217.

 

Surface Treatment And Inspection 
1. Pickling and coating 
The steel pipe is pickled to remove the oxide layer, and the corrosion resistance is enhanced by phosphating, galvanizing or spraying (depending on the application).

2. Non-destructive Testing (NDT) 
- Ultrasonic inspection (UT) : Used to detect internal defects in welds and base materials. 
- Eddy Current testing (ET) : suitable for rapid screening of surface cracks and pores. 
- Hydraulic test: Pressure test is carried out according to the standard requirements to verify the bearing capacity of the pipe.

 

Inspection And Identification Of Finished Product 
1. Final inspection items 
Including dimensional tolerance, surface quality, chemical composition retest, mechanical properties test (tensile, impact test), etc.

2. Identification and packaging 
According to the requirements of EN 10217, the steel pipe should be permanently marked with the standard number, material grade, production batch and other information, and use anti-rust oil + plastic envelope or bundled packaging to prevent transportation damage.


Supplementary statement 
- EN 10217 has strict requirements for welding process evaluation (WPQR) and welder qualification, requiring regular process verification. 
- Special purpose steel pipes (such as low or high temperature environments) may require additional impact toughness testing or metallographic analysis.
