Product Description
ASTM A572 GR.60 LSAW (Submerged Arc Welded Straight Seam Welded pipe) is a type of steel pipe widely used in high-strength structural applications. The following is a detailed analysis from multiple perspectives:
1. Standards and Material Grades
• ASTM A572: A high-strength low-alloy structural steel standard formulated by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), suitable for scenarios requiring high strength such as Bridges and buildings.
• GR.60: It indicates a minimum yield strength of 60 ksi (approximately 415 MPa), a tensile strength of over 70 ksi (483 MPa), and an elongation of ≥18% (gauge length of 50mm). Compared with carbon steel (such as A36), it has a higher strength-to-weight ratio.
2. Chemical Composition
• Alloy design: Carbon content below 0.23%, with the addition of trace elements such as vanadium (V) and niobium (Nb), to enhance strength through fine grain strengthening and precipitation hardening.
• Key element limitations:
Carbon (C) ≤0.23%, manganese (Mn) ≤1.35%
Phosphorus (P) ≤0.04%, sulfur (S) ≤0.05% (impurities are controlled to improve weldability).
3. Manufacturing Process (LSAW)
• Forming: The steel plate is pressed into a U/O shape, and double-wire or multi-wire submerged arc welding (SAW) is used to weld both the inner and outer sides simultaneously to ensure deep penetration and high-quality weld seams.
• Expansion: Cold expansion after welding is carried out to improve dimensional accuracy and eliminate residual stress.
• Heat treatment: In some cases, normalizing treatment is required to optimize the microstructure and mechanical properties.

6. Compare with other types of steel pipes
• VS ERW (Resistance Welded Pipe) : LSAW has a larger wall thickness (usually ≥6mm) and is suitable for large diameters (16 "-100"); ERW has a low cost and is suitable for thin-walled small tubes.
• VS seamless pipe: LSAW has a lower cost and can be produced in larger sizes, but seamless pipes have no welds and have a higher pressure-bearing capacity.
7. Quality Control
