Epoxy Coating(EP)

External:FBE

Internal:Liquid Epoxy

Main feature

It has extremely strong adhesion, good chemical corrosion resistance (especially acid and alkali resistance), high coating hardness, and meets food-grade standards (for water supply).

Applicable scene

Inner walls of municipal water supply and drainage, buried pipelines, transportation of corrosive media in the chemical industry, and drinking water pipelines

Restrictions/ Precautions

It has poor UV resistance and is prone to powdering after long-term exposure to the sun.

It is not suitable for outdoor exposed installation. Its resistance to periodic temperature changes is relatively weak,

Polyethylene coating(PE)

External:PE

Main feature

It has good flexibility, impact resistance, strong wear resistance, excellent low-temperature resistance (up to -40℃), and is resistant to environmental stress cracking.

Applicable scene

Outdoor exposed pipes, fire protection pipes, cable protection sleeves, and pipes for low-temperature environmentser.

Restrictions/ Precautions

It has poor UV resistance and is prone to powdering after long-term exposure to the sun.

It is not suitable for outdoor exposed installation. Its resistance to periodic temperature changes is relatively weak

💡 How to choose the right coating

When choosing a coating, a comprehensive judgment should be made in combination with specific application scenarios and requirements:

  • The conveyed medium:For the transportation of drinking water, non-toxic coatings such as food-grade epoxy resin (EP) must be selected. When transporting sewage and chemical media, the selection should be based on the corrosiveness of the medium (such as pH value). For strongly corrosive media, modified epoxy or double-layer structure can be considered.
  • Application environment:For buried pipelines, epoxy resin (EP) is a common choice. For outdoor exposed pipelines, polyethylene (PE) coatings with good weather resistance should be given priority. In environments with extremely corrosive soil, a combination of coating and cathodic protection (such as sacrificial anode method) is often adopted.
  • Mechanical performance requirements: When the pipeline may be subjected to external pressure, impact or requires a certain degree of flexibility (such as crossing roads or fire protection pipelines), polyethylene (PE) or 3PE coating should be given priority.
  • Temperature conditions:When the long-term operating temperature exceeds 80℃, epoxy resin (EP) is not suitable, and high-temperature resistant coatings such as heat-resistant polyethylene (PE) should be selected. In extremely cold regions (below -30℃), polyethylene coatings with good low-temperature toughness should be selected.

⚠️ Key points for installation and maintenance

  • Installation precautions: When installing plastic-coated steel pipes, they must not be bent. When using hot working or electric welding cutting, the cutting surface should be repaired by brushing with non-toxic room-temperature curing adhesive provided by the manufacturer.
  • Maintenance and Inspection: For important pipelines in corrosive environments or transporting corrosive media, it is recommended to conduct regular inspections of coating thickness and integrity. When the coating thickness loss exceeds 30%, local recoating should be carried out promptly.
